Long ago we learned never to judge a destination by first impressions. A great example is our adventure here in Altea. We had never heard of this Spanish seaside town until a friend of Mary’s highly recommended we visit it in a Facebook message last week.
Our initial take – stairs, noisy streets, stairs, quirky apartments, stairs – was a downer. But our lovely experiences last night and today were, as they say, a game changer. Maybe Altea is the place for our home base in Europe.
It has a gorgeous coastline. A lively city center where locals and visitors mingle. And an amazing historic old town with breathtaking views, a cafe-filled square, meandering narrow streets, galleries, and shops. We’ll be going back tonight after wine time to see it in a different light.
