Strandkorbs on the Binz beach. These ubiquitous
“beach baskets” are a color-coded local product,
still made by hand in a nearby Baltic factory, and
can be seen on almost every Baltic beach in
Germany. On Sylt the strandkorbs are blue and
white, on Rugen, they are yellow. The furniture
has become so famous that almost 3,000 are
exported as souvenirs each year.
