We sampled some of Ginza's cosmopoli‐
tan restaurants, including Lion Beer Hall--
Japan's oldest beer hall, opened in 1934 in IF YOU GO
the Ginza Lion Building--and dined at a
            charming Spanish restaurant: Spain
Gourmeteria y Bodega. Next to our hotel Go Tokyo
was one of the city's many Family Marts, www.gotokyo.org
where we could use the ATM and stock up
on reasonably priced breakfast items, fruit, Viator (for private van airport pick-up)
            candy, snacks, and wine. www.viator.com
Kalea recalls her favorite breakfast at
our hotel: “I had a traditional vegetarian The Royal Park Canvas Ginza 8 Hotel
Japanese breakfast. It consisted of pickled www.canvas-ginza8.jp/en
ume (Japanese plum), black kelp, strong
miso soup, tamagoyaki (a type of Japa‐
nese omelette), a sweet marinated grape, Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel
orange slices, steamed veggies, and rice. https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotel‐

had incredible health benefits, which made overview
it even better. Once our morning meal was
done we did a quick tour of Ginza and its Tokyo Disneyland
wonderful designer stores and restaurants. www.tokyodisneyresort.jp
            We found this great grocery/department
store called MUJI, and we bought tons of
groceries. We later found out that on the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information
top floor it was connected to an official Center
            MUJI hotel! Fancy!”
After a week in the Ginza district, our www.asakusastation.com
hotel arranged a private van ($80) to Great Buddha
Tokyo Disney. Tickets (conveniently sold by www.kotoku-in.jp

to the park) were only $62 for adults, $52
for children! Kalea and her folks flew home Kabuki Theater
after their 12-day tour, and Carl and I
stayed another three days, especially en‐ www.kabukiweb.ne
joying the sunset view of Mount Fuji from
our highrise room. And it was only $20 each
to take an hour-long shuttle bus from the
hotel to Narita for our flight home.
It was a special family bonding trip that
            we would do again!
