Our next stop was the spectacular Vinales Valley,
southwest of Havana, at the heart of Los Organos
mountain range. The valley is home to Cuba’s most
magnificent scenery: Colossal sheer-faced limestone
formations, frosted in a thin veil of green foliage,
reign over rich red-soil tobacco fields studded with
royal palms and thatched farmhouses. In the valley’s
one main town, Vinales, the country village where
we stayed in the homes of individual families, almost
every resident offers rooms to visitors – with home-
cooked breakfast included, of course.
