As wine enthusiasts, we knew a visit to the Douro Valley was a must here. So we
TheDouro Tour picked us up at our hotel for our journey to the wine village of Pinhão and
arranged a day-long tour to this UNESCO World Heritage site that began early
in the morning when João Sousa, our guide and founder of Oporto Sensations
two nearby wineries.
The ride to the Douro took us over lush green mountains to the village of
Regua with its landmark bridges. This is a regular stop for the big riverboats
sailing the Douro River. Boat day trips from Porto usually stop and turn around
here. The train station here also welcomes day-trippers from Porto. After a
short coffee and pastry break, it was 10 a.m. - a good time to begin tasting wine.
