196 NIGHT OF THE TIGER
The jungle was quiet that night. As I stepped out of
the shower and toweled off, the only sounds I
heard were the occasional distant call of a "bark-
ing" deer and the tapping of moths against the
glowing lantern outside my room.
200 CRABS BUT NOT CRABBY
I needed a mini-vacation badly. Too many
months of isolation had gotten to me, and in
spite of the great green cathedral in my back-
yard, Central Park, I wanted a quick getaway,
an antidote to burn-out, I insisted on a place
which would not require a plane ride and a
place on the water, as lakes, rivers and oceans
always sooth me,.
208 SALZBURGER LAND
“Oh, is it the one with the kittens and mittens?”
my husband asked as city guide Michaela Muhr
began to talk about the Sound Of Music while
we walked through the streets of Salzburg. Un-
known to me, as a child, he used to watch it ev-
ery year for Christmas however, most Austrians
don’t have any idea what Julie Andrews’ fa-
vorite things are.
