Kilt Rock and the Creag an Fhèilidh
Our journey continued northward to Kilt
Rock, a majestic sea cliff on the Trotternish
Peninsula. Vertical basalt columns, formed
millions of years ago by volcanic activity,
create a mesmerizing pattern that mirrors
the folds of the traditional Scottish gar‐
ment.
The highlight of Kilt Rock is the Mealt
Waterfall, also known as Creag an Fhèilidh,
which cascades 180 feet directly into the
sea below. At the viewpoint, the wind
whipped around us, carrying the fine mist
of the waterfall in the air. The sound of
crashing water echoed through the cliffs, a
constant reminder of nature’s raw power.
We watched in fascination as the falling
water disappeared into the churning waves
below—a breathtaking spectacle, and yet
another jewel in the Isle of Skye’s crown.
