because of the many “cave” hotels and it's
good connections to other nearby towns and
attractions. We ended up in Urgup, the largest
town in the region with a central downtown
filled with restaurants and shops. It was walk-
ing distance from our excellent hotel, Pegas
Cave Suites, with its comfortable rooms and
resident cats and kittens.
Many fellow visitors we met had booked
tour packages that included airfare, transfers,
a hotel and tours. We tend to create our own
itineraries - as we did with Cappadocia. Mary
booked a round-trip flight from Istanbul on
Turkish air, picked a hotel that offered a $10
airport transfer, breakfast, and a full slate of
the standard tours in Cappadocia. We saved
