Bilbao – More than a Museum

Bilbao is the largest city in the Basque
Country and the economic center of the re-
gion. Our guide said it has been gaining popu-
larity as a destination for American travelers
in recent years. Rightfully so. We found a
range of cultural, recreational, and culinary
experiences with an ever-stimulating array of
contrasts wherever we went.
We stayed at the Gran Hotel Domine,
across the street from the Guggenheim Mu-
seum. The hotel has modern rooms, fine
amenities, excellent dining, friendly and
skilled staff, and beautiful city views. Other
hotels recommended by our local guide in-
cluded Hotel Carlton, a historic landmark in
the city center, known for its elegant decor
and classic charm; Hotel Miró, a boutique ho-
tel within walking distance of major attrac-
tions and a rooftop terrace with views of the
