The heat, pollution, and traffic in Cairo
didn’t at all impact our enthusiasm for
our grand adventure in a city that was
one giant open-air museum. At times
we found the place incredibly beauti-
ful – even tranquil. We loved enjoying
a glass of wine at our hotel’s rooftop
bar while watching the sunset over the
Nile. From this perch, we delighted in
city lights reflected on the water and the
evening cruises of feluccas with their
classic triangular sails and café boats
glittering with colored lights.
We had three days in Cairo, and there
was a lot to see. We met our Memphis
Tour driver and guide bright and early
at our hotel. It was already over 80
shisha degrees, and traffic already clogged the
asphalt arteries of the city. The hazy
ocher-tinged skies persisted much of
every day as did the seemingly perpet-
ual smell of smoke that slightly irritated
our throats and eyes. But that wasn’t a
concern - we were too excited about
our Egyptian adventure about to begin.
The sun sets in downtown
Cairo-- The Nile still busy
with party boats and dis-
tinctive Egyptian feluccas.
