s we sail across the smooth Ionian
Sea toward the tip of Italy’s boot
A and on to Sicily, we find ourselves
enjoying our first sea day. The busy past
few days have taken us to Corfu and
Argostoli, two Greek island ports that
offered a fascinating contrast amid shared
historical ties.
At Corfu’s bustling busy cruise terminal, we
docked alongside three other ships, a clear
testament to the island’s popularity. Corfu
is a top vacation destination, drawing
young crowds from all over Europe, much
like Fort Lauderdale does in the United
States. The shuttle dropped us off near Old
Town, just outside the historic fort and city
walls. From there, we wandered into a
maze of narrow streets lined with souvenir
shops and local restaurants, where the
energy was undeniable but unmistakably
touristy. As we moved deeper into the
town, the atmosphere shifted. Here, locals
went about their day, shopping, dining, and
chatting at outdoor cafés along wide, tree-
shaded avenues. While vibrant and lively,
