M MALAGA, SPAINALAGA, SPAIN

                   red alert for lightning, thunder,
torrential rain, and hail in Málaga
A forced the cancellation of all ship
            excursions, including our highly anticipated
            eight-hour trip to Córdoba.
With the city just yards away from the
dock, we found ourselves on an
            unexpected sea day—while still technically
in port. A few adventurous souls braved
the elements, but they soon returned,
drenched and battered by the downpour.
Up to five inches of rain were forecasted,
and after the devastating floods in
            Valencia a month earlier, Spanish
authorities had urged residents to stay
            indoors for safety.
Ship staff and officers quickly pivoted to
accommodate a full house of passengers
with nowhere to go. Activities were added
to the schedule, and a second lunch buffet
was set up to handle the overflow in the
dining room. Crew members we had seen
at breakfast were still hard at work well
into the afternoon, a testament to
            Azamara’s exceptional service.
After weeks of sunny weather, we had no
complaints about a rainy day. In fact, we
welcomed the unexpected pause in our
hectic port-a-day itinerary. We’ve been to
Málaga many times and will have plenty of
chances to explore Córdoba during our
upcoming two-month stay in Spain next
            year.
