houses, open sewers, and barefoot children
painted a picture of economic hardship,
though signs of progress, like newly paved
roads, were visible.
At Kachikally Crocodile Pool, dozens of
crocodiles lounged lazily on the banks. An al-
bino crocodile gleamed in the sunlight, and
visitors lined up to touch its skin. The pool is
considered sacred; locals believe its waters
have special powers, particularly for women
struggling to conceive.
Our final stop was a monkey park, a
dense tropical forest. Green monkeys darted
through the trees, approaching visitors for
treats. Red colobus monkeys, with their strik-
ing rust-colored fur, watched from above.
Back on board, the Nimba Cultural Dance
Group performed, their drumming and danc-
ing captivating the audience. A fire-eating
performance was a highlight, showcasing the
rich cultural experiences Azamara integrates
into its voyages.
