La Boqueria: empanadas

                Local friends had recommended a Barcelona
            breakfast: I should reach the market at opening time
            around 10AM, grab a seat at one of the long wooden
            bars, and order a full esmorzar de forquilla. I should
            “absolutely try” a traditional “knife and fork” break-
            fast, so named in honor of Catalan workmen who
            once jumpstarted their day with a hearty tripe stew
            or a platter of scrambled eggs with pork sobresada.
            No coffee and pastries for the brave! That sounded
            right up my alley.
