24 DISCOVERING IBERIA
A culinary exploration of the Iberian Peninsula,
which includes Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
We planned to visit specific areas of Portugal
and Spain – to revisit Lisbon and more specifi-
cally Cascais, Portugal,
104 BINGING IN BARCELONA
La Boqueria proved to be one of the highlights of my
visit. Strangely, I almost missed the small recessed
plaza that marks the entrance to this city landmark,
located just off Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s renowned
tree-shaded pedestrian thoroughfare.
110 BEYOND BARCELONA
I’m ten years old again, experiencing the ex-
hilarating thrill of freedom that only a set of
wheels can bestow. But instead of cycling
around the civilized suburbs as I did in those
bygone days of innocence, I’m winding
through the wilds of Southern Catalonia.
116 A SUPERIOR EXPERIENCE
WhenyoustandontheshoreofLakeSuperioryou
can’t help hearing Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck
of the Edmund Fitzgerald” echo in your head. Su-
perior’s greenish-gray water buffets the rocky
shore in waves, flexing more like an ocean than a
lake. The wind bites. The rain attacks.
