less gems up close. Kalea even appreciated the tragic
story of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife—and
we quietly observed the memorial area outdoors that
isreportedlythesiteofherbeheading.(“Iheardsaythe
executionerwasverygood,andIhavealittleneck,”she
had bravely commented.)
Since Carl and I have been to the Tower many
times, we opted to sit on a bench and people-watch
while Kalea and Parental Company toured around for
90 minutes. On the top floor of the White Tower is an
interactivedisplayforkids,andKaleabreathlesslytold
me about the “3-D sensor video jousting: It was mostly
for boys but I loved it!”
The next day we were off to the British Museum,
where Kalea was fascinated by the Egyptian section
and its mummies--and the famed Rosetta Stone. She
enjoyed strolling around and snapping photos.
We wanted to treat Kalea to a London musical—I
have loved seeing “Matilda” twice there--but since she
had already seen a Southern California community
performance of it last summer, her parents opted for
another production. So we voted on “Wicked” since it
was new to all of us and ideal for a child! Kalea abso-
lutelylovedit,intentlyfollowingthelong-runningplot!
