                                                                 delight the senses. French Lick is one of these
                                                                 charms.

                                                                 In 1192, on his return from the Third Crusade
                                                                 in the Holy Land, Richard the Lionheart (of
                                                                 Robin Hood fame) was captured by an Austrian
                                                                 rival and imprisoned in Durnstein Castle above
                                                                 the Danube River in northern Austria.

                                                                 “Where's our ship?” I Ipanically asked my
                                                                 husband Carl as we trekked to the tiny ten-
                                                                 der pier on the Scottish Isle of Iona. I
                                                                 couldn't see it anchored where we had left it
                                                                 just hours earlier via a Zodiac RIB in the
                                                                 nearby sea.

                            metro editor and senior writer for The San Diego Union-Tribune. Michael and his wife,
