an Sebastian, Spain, is a Basque
jewel nestled on the country’s
rugged northern coast. This city,
S proudly called Donostia by locals, is
rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.
The cobblestone streets wind through the
graceful Belle Epoque cityscape of dis-
tinctly different neighborhoods, each with
personality and charm.
This was our second visit to San Sebastian.
We stayed for two weeks last year; this
time we made it our home for nearly a
month, so we would have plenty of time to
explore. Overlooking the Bay of Biscay, just
a stone's throw from France, San Sebastian
is known worldwide for its gastronomy. But
we are wowed by just about everything,
from architecture and beaches to parks
and shopping, all that makes a great city
great. Pay no mind to the almost daily
spring showers and puffer perfect chill in
the air.
San Sebastian's magic lies in its Basque
soul – a vibrant tapestry of centuries-old
traditions and fierce independence. Basque
Country boasts a rich cultural heritage, a
language spoken nowhere else on earth,
and a deep connection to its rugged coast-
line. This spirit infuses everything, from the
colorful fishing villages clinging to cliffs to
