MORE OF OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN SAN SEBASTIAN
Geralds Bar
San Sebastian is renowned for its af-
fordable pintxos and pricey Michelin-
starred dining. However, when you crave
something different - a delicious sit-down
meal that won’t break the bank, this city
has plenty of options. One standout is Ger-
alds Bar, a family-run gem in the hip Gros
neighborhood.
Our first visit was on a Sunday, a day
when families and friends gather for
leisurely long lunches. We were warmly
welcomed and presented with a tempting
chalkboard menu for a three-course meal.
The friendly owner helped us select a crisp
Rioja to complement our meal, which began
with a simple, satisfying country pâté. A
seasonal asparagus specialty followed,
easily convincing veggie-averse Ron to
clean the plate. But the star of the meal
was unquestionably the pasta alle vongole.
The perfectly cooked, house-made tagli-
atelle was tossed in a garlicky, chili-infused
sauce and topped with plump, sweet clams.
The entire meal, including a bottle of
wine, was remarkably affordable. After-
ward, we joined residents and visitors alike
strolling along the beautiful beach, soaking
up the sun and vibrant atmosphere.
Before our San Sebastian adventure
ended, we fit in a return visit to Geralds.
The menu del dia was equally impressive,
with standout dishes like marinated white
anchovies and braised quail with sweet
spring onion. The meal concluded with a
moist apple cake that was the perfect
sweet ending to our lunch - and our stay in
this seaside city.
