THE GRAND BAZAAR OF ISTANBUL

There are many great city markets, but few
compare to Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, the old-
est covered market in the world. Even its
name conjures up images of Aladdin, magic
lamps, and flying rugs. One of the largest
markets anywhere, it spans 330,000 square
feet creating a city within a city with over
4,000 shops.
The Bazaar is exotic, bustling and seemingly
chaotic to wide-eyed first time visitors. They
drift through the crowds being wooed by mer-
chants vying for attention, and perhaps a sale.
The cacophony of colors and sounds is some-
times overwhelming, but worth enduring for
an unforgettable experience.
