built in the middle of the strait in the 4th cen-
tury BC as a lighthouse. Its rich history and
stunning views make it a favorite spot for wed-
dings and engagements. Many couples believe
that marriage on the island will bring good
luck.
When choosing a boat tour, keep in mind
that mornings and evenings are the best time
to ply the Bosporus. The light is soft and the
waters less crowded. Book in advance, espe-
cially if you're traveling during peak season.
Select a boat that has a covered outdoor seat-
ing area, including the top deck. The direct
sun can be brutal. And if you don’t have a
guide, be sure the boat’s recorded commen-
tary is in English. A lot are only in Turkish.
