enemy of Horus. According to legend, Sobek resided
at Kom Ombo because of the enormous numbers of
crocodiles that swarmed here in the Nile. Villagers built
the temple and worshiped Sobek so the crocodiles
would not attack them. Captive crocodiles resided in
the temple, and many of the house crocodiles were
mummified. Some are on display at the crocodile mu-
seum near the dock.
As we explored the temple, Mohamed paused before
one of the beautify carved reliefs that told stories about
