Ron took some photos of two women in a doorway
after getting their eager agreement to pose. But after
he took the picture, the older of the two demanded
money. Ron laughed and handed them a few dollars to
make them happy. Some things are constant in Egypt.
At the end of the walk, the elder led the Pharaohs
into his house, a compound where a couple of families
lived. The daughter took us on a tour of small rooms
that were tidy and windowless. She was very proud of
her home - one of the best in the village.
We all enjoyed cups of tea and a little surprise when
a large plate topped by a basket was placed on the
table in front of us. A brave Pharoh lifted the basket to
reveal a lively baby crocodile. Everyone jumped and
