Lisbon has every conceivable way to transport
people here to there. One of the most fun and
scenic ways is to take a ferry. We had heard
about some restaurants across the river that had
both wonderful views of Lisbon and equally won-
derful traditional Portuguese cuisine. The easi-
est way to get there was by boat.
The ferry terminal was within walking distance
of our apartment. There are five ferry routes,
but the best one for tourists wanting to enjoy a
lunch with city views is to cross the Tagus from
Cais do Sodré in Lisbon to Cacilhas. Consider
avoiding it during the evening rush hour - many
workers in Lisbon crowd aboard to return to
their homes in the more affordable neighbor-
hoods across the river. The cost of a single ticket
one way is a whopping $1.25.
The ferry ride only takes 15 minutes. The
views would be great, but the ferry windows are
grubby and there is no outside deck. After we ex-
ited the ferry, we walked about a mile to the
