Mary’s beautifully plated avocado toast with crisp
            slices of the chef’s peppery smoked bacon was a
            delight too.
              In the evening, on the heels of happy hour, we
            savored more of Chef James Hardenburg’s mouth-
            watering bites in what the inn called Mendo boxes,
            a play on bento boxes. They are served every
            evening and are complimentary to all guests .
              These appetizers - or light suppers depending
            on your appetite - are served in handcrafted red-
            wood boxes easily transported to be enjoyed in
            your room or on the deck. Daily menus let guests
            know what is planned. One of our favorites was
            smoked pulled-pork sliders served with julienne
            french fries, coleslaw, and a deliciously moist
            chocolate cake.
              Most of the guests we met had stayed at the inn
            before and return regularly. We certainly under-
            stood why. Post-pandemic, we’ll be back to enjoy
            more good times - and Mendo Boxes.
