Bed and Breakfast
To say it had been a full day would be
an understatement. As we crossed the Skye
Bridge from the mainland onto the Isle, we
all were longing for a hot meal and a rest‐
ful sleep, knowing another exciting day
awaited us in the morning. Our group had
the option of booking accommodations in‐
dependently or letting Discover Scotland
handle it.
Our home for the next two nights was
the picturesque fishing village of Kyleakin,
perched on Skye’s eastern coast. Once a
bustling port, Kyleakin now blends its sea‐
faring history with a quiet charm, offering
stunning views of Loch Alsh and the bridge.
The village’s colorful cottages and boats
bobbing in the harbor added to its story‐
book feel, making it a welcome haven after
a day on the road.
Arriving at the historic Cliffe House, a
stately bed and breakfast overlooking the
water, we were welcomed by gracious
hosts who provided helpful tips and cheer‐
ful hospitality. Our second-floor ensuite
was cozy and warm. Traditional Scottish
breakfasts—eggs, waffles, bacon,
sausages, and fresh-baked scones—served
every morning were feasts that fueled us
for the day ahead.
For dinner the first night, we ventured
to Saucy Mary’s, a popular local spot
named after a legendary Norse princess
said to have taxed ships crossing the strait.
Ron indulged in their special langoustine
dinner, while Mary enjoyed Scottish
salmon, both dishes showcasing the fresh,
local seafood Skye is renowned for. Though
a bit pricey, the meal was a delicious intro‐
duction to island cuisine and a relaxing
capstone to an already memorable day.
