192 IN SEARCH OF CHEESECAKE
Two years ago, Chef Noel McMeel, known as the
King of Northern Irish cuisine, served a melt-in-
your-mouth luncheon at a conference in Ireland I
was attending. Unfortunately, I had to leave for a
meeting, so I missed his you’ve-never-tasted-any-
thing-this-good cheesecake. At dinner, everyone
was still raving about it. As they say in Ireland, I
was pretty down in the mouth I’d missed it.
204 PARIS ON THE NEISSE RIVER
You don't come to Görlitz by chance. You have to
have good reasons to take the long train journey.
The local trains, with a transfer in Cottbus, need
around three hours from Germany’s capital to its
easternmost city. They come here for the archi-
tecture.
