photo pass so that we could take still photos. Taking
video requires an additional fee. Guards frequently
checked my pass as I snapped shots throughout
the museum. They even asked if I had a video pass
when I was panning my camera but backed off when
I told them I was shooting a still panorama.
The museum is filled with all things ancient Egyp-
tian - sculptures, parts of temples, and a plethora of
finely honed stone sarcophagus scattered about on
the lower exhibition hall. Each is a priceless bit of his-
tory, but there are so many, it was difficult to compre-
hend how they all fit together to illuminate Egyptian
history and geography.
Up the grand stairs to the second level, things
seemed more organized. There was the awesome
King Tutankhamen exhibit which humanized the boy
king with a collection of toy boats and kid’s furniture.
It also showcased the immense wealth at his dispos-
al. Gold glinted everywhere on everything from the
gold gilded chairs and a figure of a leopard to jewelry
and the icon of the collection, the death mask crafted
from 25 pounds of pure gold. (By the way, you have
