radar, our northern range in California usually
ends at Sonoma. But we’re living in strange
times, and it planted the kernel of an idea for

In a gorgeous valley filled with wildflowers and
framed by 5,000-foot-high mountains, hike
along a river preserve in a region that ancestral
Chumash people believed holds mystical pow-
ers. Walk under live oak trees that shade
painterly landscapes awash in spring lupine,
casting a soft lavender hue across the rolling
grasslands.

Thomas Award-Winner and was feature editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune,
arts editor of The Baltimore Sun and writer-editor-columnist for the travel de-
partment of The Los Angeles Times. Jody was a journalist at the Charlotte Ob-
server, where she was on a team that won the Pulitzer Prize. Her articles have
been published in many publications including The New York Times and The Los
Angeles Times. They live on a farm in Lexington, Va.
