There are good reasons to visit Yellowstone
in winter, the most obvious being that there
are no crowds. Yellowstone received 4.8 mil-
lion visitors in 2022, and of that total, 47,000
visited in February. That is less than 1 per-
cent. The other reason is that you get an in-
comparable view of the parks and indelible
memories. The big reward is wildlife.
Yellowstone’s roads are almost all closed to
traffic in winter, as is the highway that con-
nects Yellowstone and Grand Teton, an easy
