Ferrara

A town out of a fairytale, Ferrara is no-
table both for being one of the only Italian
cities with its medieval walls fully intact and
for its central castle that still has its moat.
The castle, home to the powerful Este family
for centuries, is the imposing center of town,
which presents an interesting juxtaposition
of city planning: To the south, you will find
narrow and haphazard medieval streets,
while surrounding the castle and to the
north, the more formally laid-out streets
from the Renaissance.
